Okay, I’m going to make this short and sweet because absolutely *nobody* needs to read a whole novel just to get a simple answer to a question. Especially because I know you’ve been trying to get that sticker residue off for hours already and your fingers – and patience – are just over it.
If you are like me and have tried everything imaginable to remove sticker residue from glass cups, ceramic dinnerware, plastic, your laptop, windows, metal – heck, if you’ve even tried to remove sticker glue from clothes or even your skin – I’ve been there, my friend.
I’ve tried rubbing for countless hours.
I’ve tried rubbing alcohol.
I’ve tried soap and hot water.
I’ve even tried Goo Gone which works ok but has a gross smell and isn’t the cleanest product to use, especially on dinnerware and glasses.
Now let me blow your mind and tell you what actually works at getting rid of sticker adhesive *quickly* without the stinky smells.
How to Get Rid of Sticker Residue Easily
Three words: Lemon. Essential. Oil.
Yup. That’s all you need. And it works like a charm. It’s basically nature’s goo gone. I have a bottle of this on hand at *all* times.
See for yourself, my friend.
What You Need:
- Lemon essential oil
- Paper towel
- Sticker residue that needs taking down

Lemon Essential Oil
Directions:
- Apply a couple drops of lemon essential oil to the sticker residue. If it’s a big sticker, you may need more. Use your best judgement here.
- Rub it in across all the residue, either with your finger (the residue may make your finger sticky) or a piece of paper towel until it looks like it’s all broken up.
- Wipe off with a clean piece of paper towel.
- This should work the first time. If you didn’t apply enough lemon essential oil, you may need to repeat until you remove all the sticker residue.
And that, my friends, is how to get rid of sticker residue with lemon essential oil.
Me before learning how to remove stickers this way:
I also want to note this works on pretty much anything that’s sticky that you need to get off, like sap and even nail glue. Just apply a drop of lemon essential oil, rub it in, and wipe off. I’ve even used this trick to get sap off a friend’s skirt.
It literally works SO WELL, and it smells good.
Where to Use:
- Glass
- Windows
- Mirrors
- Plastic*
- Ceramic
- Metal
- Wood*
- Clothes*
- Skin*
*I recommend testing a small area first before going all in on the off chance the material gets damaged (or sensitive, like skin), especially on the items with an asterisk. I personally have used lemon essential oil to get sticker residue and other sticky residues off of glass, plastic, ceramic, wood, vinyl, windows, mirrors, clothes, myself, my laptop – pretty much anything that has sticky glue on it.
Disclaimer:
I have bought and used essential oils from the grocery store, Doterra, and Young Living. The Doterra and store bought oils have never lasted long or worked very well. For that reason, I only use Young Living essential oils and I can only speak to the efficacy and safety of this recipe using Young Living essential oils. If you use a different brand of essential oil and don’t find it works, they may not be quality oils and I would recommend trying a higher quality oil instead.
